Spring may be one of the groggiest of seasons – admit it, even winter comes with the promise of snowmen, angels and flakes. So, while it may seem like the best time to stay indoors having a lazy day, there are some outdoor activities that can make outdoors great again. It may not bring the same intensity or amount of energy that summer or fall activities offer up, but anything is better than mimicking the mood of the weather. So, to make the spring earn a bit of a better reputation, here are 10 fun activities that will brighten up the day.
1. Take A Walk In The Park
A long walk is an exhilarating activity to take part in no matter the time or season and it is the perfect low energy activity for a spring day. The best part about taking a walk in the springtime is that all that uncomfortable business of sweating is eliminated. So, whether it is a nice, brisk power walk or a comfortable stroll around a park or reserve, the weather is completely on your side. Despite the fact that the sun is hiding behind clouds, still, be sure to use slather on some sunscreen then you are good to go.
2. Patronize A Rooftop Bar/Restaurant
Any other day of the year, this may come off as anything from mildly to incredibly uncomfortable. But on a dry spring day, best believe that the weather is your friend as you sit perched above your town or city. There is something about a great view that makes the food and drinks pop a bit more. Without having to worry about excess heat or wind, it becomes an even more wholesome experience. All in all, it offers up a great way to socialize instead of sitting indoors all through the semi-gloomy weather.
3. Bird Watching
Hang on and hear this out, bird watching may seem like something you never imagined yourself doing. In fact, it may seem completely boring and out of the question. But, you are in for a pleasant surprise because it is the perfect springtime activity. The best part of it is getting some reference material and matching the birds in the air to the ones in the books or pamphlets. To get this started, simply get a pair of compact binoculars, some good reference material (there are apps available), then find a comfortable place to sit.
4. Play In The Rain
Sometimes, it is not a bad idea to just let loose and allow your inner child to run free. It should definitely not become an everyday occurrence to limit trips to the doctor, but a little bit of water now and then can do no wrong. So, the next time you are indoors or even outdoors on a wet spring day, simply abandon the umbrella. Put on some rain boots and a rain jacket and galivant the way you used to when you were just little.
5. Go On A Picnic
It may be wet and unpleasant, but on the days that it is not, spring offers up the best weather for outdoor activities like picnicking. This is the best time to go out as a family, couple or group of friends and soak in the surroundings as you nibble away on finger food. So, pack up a nice picnic basket with your favorite little bite and spend some quality time with your loved ones on a picnic blanket while the weather will still let you.
6. Work In Your Garden
This is actually the perfect weather to work on planting a garden, it is not too warm or cold and the rain is there to provide some nourishment. Thanks to the mild weather, you can afford to sit out in your garden and work at your own pace without watering the plants with your sweat. Who knows, it can even become a group activity if you can get the right pair of hands on board.
7. Barbecue
This is a great wat to get the gang together and enjoy some good protein and veg in the process. Rather than spending a nice cool evening in the kitchen, why not take it out your backyard? Do some cooking under the stars and enjoy it with a nice group of friends. Apart from enjoying the fresh air, there’s the added plus that BBQ food always tastes a whole lot better. The weather practically demands that you enjoy an evening outside once in a while.
8. Interact With Some Wildlife
You do not need to go all the way to a zoo or a reserve to enjoy some basic interaction with wildlife. Start with the critters all around you; the likes of birds, chipmunks, ducks and even squirrels can help pass the time in spring. There is no doubt that they get hungry once in a while, so feeding them in any capacity would go a long way. So, on one hand, you can help them score some free food and on the other, you can watch the beauty of nature.
9. Have A Camping Trip
This is the absolute best time to enjoy the great outdoors to the fullest. So, do the needful by packing up a survival bag and a blow up tent. The wonderful thing about this activity is that you can enjoy it within the confines of your backyard or head out of town for some extra excitement. Spring is the perfect season to lie under the stars, the heat and bugs are on the down-low and as such, you can enjoy nature to the fullest.
10. Play Frisbee
This is a great way to let your dog in on all the fun if you own one. Even without a canine companion, playing frisbee can serve as a great way to keep active on a cool spring day. It may come off as a simplistic game but why complicate issues altogether? So, grab a friend, canine or human then proceed to have the time of your lives.
