It’s no secret that many portable Bluetooth speakers are, well, just not loud enough. Their small, portable size is the cause of their sonic limitation: simply put, the smaller a speaker is the less power of amplification it has. Usually.
Enter Soundboks Go, possibly the loudest portable Bluetooth speaker in its size range. Sure, it’s not exactly a mini speaker, but it’s still a relatively compact package that most folks can comfortably carry on their own. But is it really worth $700? Let’s find out.

A Hard-Hitting Monster Boombox
The Soundboks Go is Soundboks’ latest portable speaker and a little brother to the classic Soundboks Gen 3 speaker. While cheaper than its big brother by about $200, the Go boasts a thumping bass output – up to 121 dB – and a balanced sound profile with clear mids and highs. This is the speaker to get if you love your bass as it’s downright thunderous.
At 18-inches wide, 12-inches high and weighing in at 20 pounds, this is not a small Bluetooth speaker by any stretch of the imagination. But thankfully, the silicone rubber handle on top makes carrying it around pretty easy. The Soundboks Go also fits in the backseat and on a bike rack, so despite its relatively big size, it’s definitely a highly portable speaker. You can also purchase a carrier strap for an extra $50.
The Go uses a powerful and durable LiFePO4 battery cell called Batteryboks. Thanks to this removable and replaceable battery, the boombox should be good for up to 40 hours at mid-volume, or around 10 hours at full volume. You can charge the battery while the Go is playing too, or swap it with a new one with minimal interruption to sound. It’s worth noting that the Go ships with one battery but you can purchase an extra one for $149. The good news is, if you already own the Gen 3 speaker, you can also use it for this model (and vice-versa).
The Soundboks Go works with the Soundboks app, so you can adjust the EQ, volume, bass, custom sound profiles and more through your phone. You can also protect your speaker with anti-theft and Bluetooth signal locks.
The Buy
The Soundboks Go is available for $699 or $749 with a carrier strap. While not as awesome as its big brother Soundboks Gen 3, the Go is still pretty awesome, with excellent audio quality at high volumes.
