After five long years, it seems we are finally getting another VR headset from Sony! The new PlayStation VR was announced in February 2021 and the controllers were presented in March the same year, but this is the first time we get to see the design and take a peek at some of the features.
The new VR headset not only looks amazing (it matches the look of the VR2 Sense controller) but also provides a seriously immersive gaming experience and incredible visual clarity. While the design generally bears resemblance to its predecessor and is pretty much classic Sony, there are some exciting new features that promise a deeply immersive virtual reality experience, such as a lens adjustment dial, headset feedback, and the new PS VR2 Sense controller. Oh, and the new headset is slightly lighter too, so more comfortable to wear as well.
Sony PlayStation VR2 Specs
The new-gen headset brings better visuals, new sensory features, enhanced tracking, and more. Here are features we’re most excited about:
- 4K HDR display
- Tempest 3D AudioTech
- Enhanced comfort
- Eye motion tracking
- Headset feedback
- Single-cable connection
PS VR2 Sense Technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, and 3D Audio, offering heightened sensory and emotional experiences. This, together with the new controller, helps create a feeling of deep immersion into the game world.
Perhaps the most exciting innovation is the new PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. It enables the player to interact with virtual worlds in ways that seem very close to reality. Packed with awesome new features like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and finger touch detection, this controller lets you reach out and touch the virtual world. How Matrix is that!
The Buy
We don’t know the VR2’s official release date or the price yet. But Sony did announce Horizon Call of the Mountain™, a game made specifically for VR2 from Guerrilla and Firesprite Games. We can’t wait to try it out!
