Naglev Combat WP – A Stylish Boot for the Foot Astute
It’s rare to find a hiking boot that looks good in town while also performing well on the trail. But the folks at Naglev have pulled it off with their Combat WP boot, a piece of technical footwear that combines the durability of Kevlar and warmth of wool with clean lines and stylish design.
Durability and Style Combine in the Naglev Combat WP
Let’s start from the ground up. The Naglev Combat WP features hard-wearing natural rubber outsoles with an aggressive tread — this isn’t just a city boot. The lugs are plenty capable of handling mud, slush, and slick rock. The midsole is a dual-density EVA for comfort, while the footbed comprises vegetable-tanned leather and coconut fibers.
The sole and footbed feature specialized stitching, which makes both components replaceable. That means that the Naglev Combat WP could last you quite a long while, assuming you don’t blow out the uppers or the rand — which would be difficult to do. The upper is made from a single piece of kevlar and is joined to the rand with seam-sealed stitching.
The rand is TPU, known for its durability and hard-wearing properties.
Trail, Meet Comfort
It doesn’t matter how technical a hiking boot is or how stylish it looks if it isn’t comfortable. The Naglev Combat WP keeps the water off your feet with a breathable, waterproof membrane layered on an inner boot constructed of wool. Wool is breathable and has powerful insulative capabilities, even when wet, and also has natural anti-microbial properties. The inner boot will keep your foot warm, dry, and as odor-free as possible.
An elastic band located at the ankle helps with a secure fit, while a speed lacing system allows you to dial it in even more. The foot box on these boots looks pretty standard — if you have wide feet or are prone to blisters, we don’t recommend these boots for super-long days on the trail. But for ten-mile hikes followed by jaunts around town, it’s hard to go wrong with the Naglev Combat WP.
Comfort, Meet Style
Have we mentioned how good these boots look? The Kevlar material has a natural pebbled texture that stands out from a crowd of mesh and leather boots. The TPU rand swirls around the back half of the boot in a pleasing pattern, while the accents on the laces and eyelets match the natural rubber color of the outsole and lugs.
The Naglev Combat WP boot offers a classic over-the-ankle profile and features pull-on loops for ease of use. You’ll be turning heads with this boot at the trailhead as well as the coffee shop.
Buying the Naglev Combat WP
You can buy this boot at Huckberry for $280, a price that is somewhat on the higher end for hiking boots. Worth it? Hard to say without putting the waterproof-breathable capabilities, comfort, and durability claims to a real test. But we like the potential, and as we’ve said, you don’t often see hiking boots that look this good. It might be worth ordering a pair and trying them on. Currently, Huckberry is offering free returns through January 2021.
