Freakshake Recipes
If you’re late to the party, a freakshake is an entire meal in a single milkshake. Sounds nuts? It could be. You could add Nutella, walnuts, anything you like. The point is that it’s not a snack, it’s not a beverage, it’s your meal replacement to stash away those carbs and calories when you’re bulking. Bodybuilders have been making their own variety of freakshakes for years (usually without sugar), so today, we’re going to look at some of the most delectable freakshake recipes you need to try. When you throw one of these back, it doesn’t just change your idea of a meal: it floods your taste buds as you’ve never experienced before. Enough stalling, let’s get to the freakshakes.
1. Coconut Kahlua After-Dinner Freakshake
It’s about to get freaky. If you’re a fan of dessert-based alcoholic drinks, you’re going to flip for this one. Enjoying one of these after dinner ensures you’ve filled up the tank, and you’ll be sleeping like a baby. Here’s what you’re going to need:
- Chocolate syrup
- Kahlua
- Bailey’s Irish Creme
- Whole milk
- Pink Himalayan salt
- Salted caramel ice cream
Let’s start with the glass. You’re going to meld everything together, except you’re going to rim the glass with the pink Himalayan salt. This is going to intensify the sweetness from each sip as you make your way around the glass.
Once you’ve blended your ice cream, Kahlua, Bailey’s, syrup and milk together to the right consistency, pour almost all of it into the glass. It should reach near the rim, and after that, take a fork and whip what’s left. Between the milk and the ice cream, you’ll get a nice froth that simply adds an aesthetic element to the top, while changing the texture of this killer freakshake.
2. Cotton Candy Caper
Who doesn’t remember hitting the carnival and getting that fatstick of cotton candy while you looked at all the lights? It’s like reliving your childhood in a glass, with all the flavor blasts from the past. This is what you’re going to need:
- One bag of cotton candy (can be dollar store variety)
- Sherbet ice cream in your preferred flavor
- Whole milk
- Multicolored sprinkles
- Vanilla extract
This one is fairly simple to make. Drop in your sherbet ice cream into the milkshake maker, and add your milk. You’ll want this to be a slightly runny consistency, so don’t be light-handed with the milk.
Next, you’re going to throw one puff of cotton candy into the blender as well as your vanilla extract, so you can really incorporate that flavor. Turn it on, whip it into a creamy smooth consistency, and put it aside. Grab your glass and get ready to rim it in cotton candy.
Wet a paper towel and place the glass rim on it, just to get enough moisture to bond the cotton candy to the glass. Place cotton candy around the rim, drop in your mixture, and put a puff of cotton candy on top as well. For an added effect, toss on some multi-colored sprinkles to liven it up (and get that sugar high flowing).
3. Christmas in a Cup
Some folks get upset when November rolls around, but we love holiday music and Christmas gifts season. In fact, why let it end when December turns into the New Year? This is going to keep that Christmas spirit alive; here’s what you need:
- Rum raisin ice cream
- Whipped cream
- White chocolate
- Eggnog
- Nutmeg
- Vanilla extract
The ingredients list is already making my mouth water; imagine how fantastic this is going to be when it’s finished. Drop in your rum raisin ice cream (you can also use vanilla bean if you prefer), your whole milk, and a touch of eggnog. Blend it all together, add your vanilla extract, and gently pulse it, and place it aside.
Get a small glass bowl and melt some white chocolate in a cup. You can even melt white chocolate chips if you prefer. Before it cools, pour your mixture into your glass, and top it off with the whipped cream and a pinch of nutmeg.
On top of the whipped cream, add your white chocolate. If you’re going to dig into this right away, save half of the white chocolate and add it in when you get halfway down, whip it together with a spoon, and you’ll be in heaven.
4. The Salty Walter
We’re going to take a trip back in time to the fifties and sit on down at a drugstore to drink a float of sorts, with a salted twist. This is what you’ll need:
- Root beer or cream soda
- Vanilla ice cream
- Whole milk
- Crushed pretzels
- Vanilla extract
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate drizzle
If you can, hit the dollar store and grab an old-fashioned pint mug to make this really feel like a time hop. Drop your ice cream into the blender along with your root beer, whole milk and a bit of vanilla extract, and blend that to perfection.
When that’s whipped nicely, keep in mind you won’t have any carbonation from the soda left. Drop it into a glass, and pour a little bit of root beer on top. Gently whisk that in with a fork. Add your whipped cream.
Now it’s time to run some chocolate drizzle over the top and drop in some crushed pretzel bits. This is one you’re going to want to eat with a spoon, so you can get the perfect blend of smooth shake and light, salty topping in every single bite.
5. Oreo Upside-Down Shake
Oreos are one of the ultimate dessert options, and with this dish, you’re going to make them the star of the show. To get put in the middle of a cookie explosion, grab these:
- Oreo ice cream
- Small pack of Oreos
- Chocolate sauce
- Cookies and cream cookie butter
- Caramel drizzle
- Whipped cream
You’re going all-in with this one. You ready? Drop in your ice cream and two Oreo cookies, and most importantly, a few teaspoons of cookies and cream cookie butter. You can use a generic brand for this and it will still taste fantastic.
While those are blending, take your chocolate sauce and caramel drizzle to the glass. Glaze the interior of the glass, and while you’re at it, add some to the rim. Crush up a couple Oreo cookies in a Ziploc bag, and get back to your mixture.
Pour it into the glass, top it with whipped cream, and drop your Oreo crumbs onto the top. You’ll need a spoon to dig into this with (and possibly a nap afterward), but you’ll never achieve the peak enlightenment of Oreo until the next time you make one of these.
6. Peaches and Strawberries for Days
Let’s get a little fruity. It’s still going to be sweet, but with a touch of tart in there to appeal to your more wild side. To get your full dose of vitamin C in the most delicious way ever, this is what you’ll need to grab:
- Fresh strawberries
- Fresh peaches
- Your choice of sherbet, we recommend orange
- Whipped cream
- Multicolored sprinkles
- Strawberry sauce topping
These are fairly simple to create, and give you a health boost while still being delicious and completely filling. Add in your sherbet ice cream, mix in your fresh peach and strawberry chunks, and hit the blend button. Get a wide-rimmed glass and drizzle some strawberry topping over its edges.
Once everything is blended, you’re nearly done. Drop it into your glass after it achieves a creamy consistency, and top it with whipped cream. We like adding a few multicolored sprinkles to the top for another aesthetic dimension, followed by a bit more of that strawberry sauce topping. Whether you sip from the rim or eat it with a spoon, this is one treat you can feel good about indulging in.
7. Peanut Monster Shake
We can’t make a list of the best freakshakes without including a peanut butter one. You’ll feel like a kid again, buying your favorite candy from the corner store before heading home. Here’s what you’ll need:
- One pack of mini Reese’s peanut butter cups
- Whipped cream
- Peanut butter ice cream
- Mini chocolate chips
- Caramel drizzle
- Whole milk
Grab your glass and give it a caramel coating along the interior; this is really going to boost the flavor of the end product. In a blender, put in your ice cream, whole milk, and a dozen mini Reese’s. Keep in mind this is going to be one thick shake, so you’re going to find yourself eating it with a spoon.
Drop it all into that glazed glass, and get to work on your topping. This is where your creativity and skill come in play. Line the top with mini Reese’s, add some whipped cream. Add more mini Reese’s, add some caramel drizzle, and some mini chocolate chips. The whole thing should come out like a candyship masterpiece.
8. Caramel Orchard
Fall is, in my humble opinion, one of the best seasons of the year. It has all this feeling of magic and anticipation that comes with it. If you want to extend the Fall season, here’s what you’ll need to grab:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Brown sugar
- Butter
- Granny Smith apples
- Whipped cream
- Caramel drizzle
- Cinnamon
- Apple cider
Sounds like a lot, right? To start things off, begin by peeling your apple and searing it in a little bit of brown sugar and butter on a low heat. Let that slowly caramelize, and head over to your milkshake maker. Drop in your vanilla ice cream, apple cider, and a pinch of cinnamon.
Blend that together very gently, and put it aside. When your apples are done, let them cool for one to two minutes, and add them into the mix. This is going to melt a little bit of the ice cream, but it gives it an excellent texture.
Take your glass and caramel sauce. Whether it’s in a squeeze bottle or you need to use a spoon, glaze the inside of the glass, drop in your mixture, and top it off with whipped cream (and more caramel, of course). You’ve just extended Fall into every single season.
9. The Mocha Mint Masterpiece
It’s like drinking a really minty Shamrock. This one appeals to our more indulgent side because it’s going to be mint overload (in the best possible way). For this recipe, you’re going to need:
- Mint chocolate chip ice cream
- Mint syrup (Torani mint coffee syrup works as well)
- Chocolate sauce
- Skim or 1% milk
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate Sprinkles
First thing’s first: drop that mint ice cream straight into the blender. You’re going to add a few pumps (up to your discretion) of a mint syrup inside to really boost that flavor. You can use Torani’s lineup of coffee flavoring syrups to give it an extra bit of oomph.
Drop in some skim or 1% milk. It’s time to fire the blender up until you can hear the chocolate chips from the ice cream turn into a fine shred. Before you pour this into your glass, take a spoon and dip it into your jar of chocolate sauce. Use it as a honey wand to paint the inside of your glass, giving a nice chocolate drizzle effect from the outside.
Pour in your liquid mint deliciousness, and pop on some whipped cream. We’re fans of dropping a spoonful of chocolate sprinkles on top, but for texture, you can drop on walnuts or cookie bits. Crushing up an Oreo in a Ziploc bag and dropping on top can take this to the next level.
10. Cookie Dough Shakes
Who in their right mind doesn’t like a nice cookie dough ice cream cone? It’s about to get ten times better because you’re going to turn a simple tub of ice cream into one of the most delicious shakes you’ll have ever had. Here’s what you’re going to need:
- One container of cookie dough ice cream
- One chocolate chip cookie
- Vanilla syrup
- Whole milk
- One waffle cone
- Mini chocolate chips
- Caramel drizzle
It already sounds crazy, doesn’t it? You’re going to capture the ultimate flavor of a fully loaded ice cream cone, but without getting quite so messy. Take your waffle cone and start breaking it up. Set it aside; you’ll need it later.
Next take your ice cream, syrup, milk and a few mini chocolate chips, and toss them in the blender. You’ll want to whip these into a very fine, almost creamy consistency. Now it’s time to make some of the real magic happen.
Pour the contents into your glass, and top it off by shoving a chocolate chip cookie halfway into the mixture. Toss on some mini chocolate chips, waffle cone chunks, and last but not least, a hint of caramel drizzle. Every bite will have a different texture, multiple strengths of different flavors melding into one, with a smooth finish.
What Portions Should I Use?
Since this is a meal replacement item, you can make them as small or large as you want.
