Price drop alert: Fenix just dropped their high-powered PD36R Flashlight’s price from $132 to just under $100. This bad boy turns darkness into daylight with a gaudy 1600 lumens of brightness, and a range approaching 1000 feet. A 21700 li-ion battery powers the rechargeable EDC flashlight, giving it twice the runtime of light with a standard li-ion battery.
The powerful PD36R looked like a good gift for EDC dads this Father’s Day season, especially since it’s on sale. So we looked into it — without pointing it toward our eyes.
PD36R Rechargeable Flashlight Brightness and Physical Specs
The PD36R is fully equipped to keep the user safe in the dark, with long runtimes and a variety of utility features. The 5 ½-inch flashlight’s two switches include a tactical toggle on the butt for on/off and a switch on the side to switch between brightness modes and strobe.
The beam and brightness, especially considering the size, are incredible. On “Turbo” mode, the PD36R banishes the darkness with 1600 lumens at 928 feet. And, thanks to the high-yield battery, it burns for a long time no matter what. Max run time on Turbo is nearly 3 hours; dial it back to Medium, which pumps out 350 lumens at 420 feet, and get 8 hours and 24 minutes run time.
Users can carry the PD36R in a variety of orientations with the two-way clip. A discreet battery indicator (on the side switch) lets the user know the charge status.
21700 Li-Ion Battery and Charging
The PD36R’s high performance comes from its 21700 li-ion battery. 21700 batteries are relatively new tech renowned for their optimized runtimes. This is Fenix’s first entry to feature the high-capacity battery, which reportedly doubles the PD36R’s runtime.
Fenix also adds a USB-C port for efficient recharge. With a 10 minute charge, Fenix claims the light runs on Low (150 lumens) for 5 hours. The light charges fully in 4 hours with a standard 5V/3A charger.
