Elgato Cam Link 4K
The Elgato Cam Link 4K from computer peripherals giant Corsair is a neat USB drive-like device that forms a bridge between your computer and your image and action capture devices, instantly turning these venerable gadgets into an equally stunning PC camera. It’s a compact and lightweight HDMI capture device that turns any DSLR, action cam, and camcorder into an extension of your laptop or desktop computer.
Designed for those who work with digital content especially those in live video streaming and broadcasting fields, the Elgato seamlessly bridges any standard computer with film and still camera devices. One only needs to plug the Elgato into an HDMI port on one’s laptop or desktop computer and shots can be taken and/or recorded right away. Since it is connected to the computer, there are no issues about insufficient memory. One can always rely on the storage capacity of one’s computer for such a purpose.
Perhaps what is more amazing is that it can shoot, play, and record videos in full 4K quality. That’s about 3840×2610 pixels at 30p, although one can always choose to go for a much lower resolution as the case dictates. Perhaps the only downside to the design of the Elgato is that its HDMI input is unencrypted. Not that it matters, but it sure would be nice if you also have some form of security.
The Elgato Cam Link 4K currently works on the latest Windows 10 and the Mac OS Sierra 10.12. It may not work on platforms that do not run on the 4th generation of Intel’s Code i5 or later. The USB port also requires 3.x compatibility, not 2.0.
Despite these limitations, the Elgato sure is a great and nifty plug-and-play device that turns your DSLR, action cam, and camcorder into a PC webcam.
