Bontrager WaveCel Helmet
The WaveCel promises to deliver optimum head protection for cyclists. Whether you’re a pro or an everyday cyclist, this Trek and Bontrager creation shatters 3 decades of bicycle safety standards. It’s what you’ll use if you want to save yourself from the many complications of a brain concussion.
From the outside, the WaveCel looks like any other cycling helmet. What many may not realize is that the foam protection that lines the inside of the helmet is not your average flimsy foam. This is the WaveCel, an ingenious helmet technology that features a collapsible cellular structure. What it does is that this cellular structure serves as a crumple zone. Its unique structure allows it to absorb more impact forces before they reach the head. The same technology minimizes the impact forces that get transmitted to the brain.
Its crumple technology protects the head in three sequential steps. First, the cells undergo flexion as impact forces hit the helmet’s outer structure. This alone can already reduce the impact of the initial force. As the cells flex, they start to crumple to absorb more of the impact forces. To finish off its head-protecting capabilities, the WaveCel redirects the impact forces away from the head. It does this by gliding across the head.
While the technology is far from perfect, WaveCel is 48 times more effective in the prevention of brain concussions compared to conventional foam-lined cycling helmets. This is substantial protection that can give cyclists a boost in their performance. They won’t have to worry about the ability of their helmets to protect them in case they fall.
The Trek WaveCel doesn’t look spectacular but it makes the perfect useful gift for cyclists. Underneath its ordinary look, there is a technology that can save the life of a cyclist. It doesn’t matter if you’re a professional or an ordinary one; WaveCel protects your brain and your life.
