Excellent Rain Protection with the Black Diamond Stormline Jacket
The Black Diamond Stormline jacket has been in my arsenal for years. It’s been such a joy; I own not one but two different colors of this jacket. I first picked up a Stormline Jacket when I lived in Houston, Texas, and the monsoon-type thunderstorms that rattled the sky were a weekly occurrence, at least, all year round. Now, I live in the PNW, where it rains six months out of the year, but instead of angry thunderstorms, we get endless grey drizzles all day long. Portlanders and many folks out here admonish umbrellas and exclusively rely on rain jackets to avoid being constantly soaked. I own a bright coral-colored option for adventures, mostly so I remain visible and to be used to call for help should the situation require it, and a black one, perfect for blending in in Portland.
Exceptional Build, Rugged Wear
Aside from using this coat as a rain jacket, I also employ it for running on windy days and as a shell when backcountry touring. This jacket keeps out wind, snow, and rain with BD Dry technology, which makes this a windproof and waterproof shell that still offers exceptional breathability. The pit zips offer additional breathability in warm and sunny conditions. When traveling, I love to tuck the whole jacket into its pocket and stow it away in my bag or suitcase. There’s also a carabiner loop to add to your harness while climbing and an adjustable helmet-friendly hood, making this a great choice for biking, skiing, or rock climbing. The adjustable cuffs and hem, hood, and stretchy fabric make this jacket easy to move in. After several years, my black jacket looks nearly pristine and my coral jacket shows some wear but the amount of wear looks minimal for how many days this jacket has spent outdoors in the city and in the mountains. If I needed more of this jacket, I’d order them in a heartbeat as it’s been nothing but dependable no matter what I throw at it. However, since I have yet to destroy this jacket, it’s likely I may not need a new one for years to come.
The Buy
The Black Diamond Stormline is available directly through Black Diamond’s website and stores. Additionally, it’s carried by many online retailers and outdoor stores. This jacket’s MSRP is $159 and I’d say it’s worth it for the durability and the fact that this is a one-stop-shop shell for a variety of activities. No matter your style, this model is available in a variety of colorways in both men’s and women’s options and in sizes XS-XXL, so there’s something for all bodies.
