Four years ago, Alpen introduced its first lockable and weatherproof bike storage pod, very functional and very futuristic-looking. Now, they are releasing a new and improved (and more expensive, we might add) version of the snail-like bicycle contraption designed to keep your bike protected from thieves and elements alike.
ALPEN Basecamp Bike Capsule Features:
- Bluetooth/WiFi-enabled smart lock
- ALPEN smartphone app
- A charger grommet for e-bike charging
- Overall size: 85″ l, 32″ w, 55.6″ h
- Max overall bike length: 77″
- Max handlebar width: 33″
Protective Shell For Your Bike
The signature sleek design paired with precision engineering makes this product both eye-catching and practical. The new Basecamp Bike Capsule is conveniently bigger than its predecessor but it features the same patented snail shell design. It offers more interior space to fit almost any type of bike, including cargo and mountain bikes. In fact, it can accommodate bicycles up to 77 in long and 33 in wide.
The original Classic had a key lock on the lid, while the Basecamp has a Bluetooth-enabled electronic lock. You control it using a smartphone app and you can temporarily or permanently grant access to any person you choose.
There is a small rear opening on the snail shell for the e-bike charger cord if you need to charge your e-bike while it is inside the Basecamp. The inside of the pod features convenient hooks and bins for storing your cycling gear. There is a rear-wheel chock to hold the bicycle upright.
The shell is weatherproof and it can securely attach to most ground surfaces to prevent theft of the entire unit. You can also use the Hiplok Ankr for another level of security.
As with all ALPEN products, the Campbase is manufactured and hand-assembled in the USA.
The Buy
The Basecamp Bike Capsule is available for preorder now and its full price will be $2,399. As for the Classic, it is currently on sale and it costs 1,529 USD (down from 1,799 USD).
