Things To Do In LA
The City of Angels is basically one of the best places on earth, for a ton of reasons. We could go on and on about every single one of them, but today, we thought it best to keep it to a tight top ten list. This is everything you can expect to fall in love with in Los Angeles. If you can manage to work this all into one trip, then you’re a legend. If not, you’ll just have to come back again.
1. Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal Studios is basically the home of all great television and ultimate movies, just think of how many times you’ve seen the logo. If you’re coming to LA, then you have to see a slice of where the movie magic is made. Celebrity house trips and those spot-a-celebrity maps are bogus; this is where you can get your own taste of the movie magic of Hollywood. Admission prices are generally pretty fair, and the tour lasts for ages, giving you more bang for your buck.
2. Hollywood Sign Helicopter Tours
Come on, you’re not going to miss the Hollywood sign, are you? There’s plenty of trips where you can get sweaty and walk up a huge hill in California weather, but then again, everything is more exciting from the seat of a helicopter. Ironically, these are cheaper than group traveling on foot. You won’t be up there for as long, but who’s going to stare at a sign all day? It’s the perfect amount of time to spend inspecting the Hollywood sign while doing something equally as exciting, and frees you up to spend more time throughout the day on the other eight parts of this list.
3. Surfing Lessons At Venice Beach
You don’t live near Venice Beach, and it’s somewhere that’s like no other. Learning to surf here, or at the very least renting surf gear and hitting the waves yourself, is basically living in your own movie. There’s the picturesque sky, the insane swells, and if you can get there around the right time, people watching can be downright exciting as well.
4. Champagne Cruise
Yes, that’s right—champagne cruise. You’re going to drink champagne from a freakin’ yacht, and you’re going to like it. For a low admission cost, it’s a two hour trip that will leave you a bit buzzed, and a whole lot more relaxed than when you stepped on that ship in the first place. You’ll see the Marina del Rey, listen to loud music, and enjoy brunch in the company of a stellar crew that’s all hands on deck.
5. Getty Center
Someone that people don’t talk about often enough is the Getty Center. It’s like an artists’ dream sitting on a grassy hilltop. You’ll see works by Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Rubens and Cezanne, all while getting a once-in-a-lifetime view of Los Angeles. There are a ton of works at the Getty Center for you to ogle, and a clear skyline ahead of you to enjoy as you traipse on down the path you came on, and experience the other beauties of LA.
6. Rodeo Drive
You have to budget at least one nice purchase while you’re there. The shops at Rodeo Drive are basically where celebrities and high-status Los Angeles locals shop. Designer stores and the one and only mall designed by Frank Lloyd Wright sit on a $200 million road that carves a path between all the high ticket spots and top tier shopping destinations in all of California. This is where you see unique and one-of-a-kind items that aren’t for sale anywhere else.
7. Walt Disney Concert Hall
You could go to a concert anywhere, but you’ll never see a concert in a venue like this one. Walt Disney Concert Hall is basically an acoustic haven where sound naturally travels in such a way that you won’t be able to experience elsewhere. As you might imagine, Disney shelled out big bucks for this place because it’s just that amazing. Don’t worry; it’s not just filled with new renditions of Let It Go; there’s a ton of different events and performances for all the music lovers in the family.
8. Sunset Strip
Once simply referred to as “The Strip” by locals, Sunset is the hot spot in Hollywood. It’s a mile and a half of widespread venues, shops, apartments and offices that basically defines where West Hollywood is. It’s the edgier part of town, but it’s also home to the Andaz West Hollywood hotel, the Comedy Store, and a slew of other world-famous buildings that you’ll get to enjoy.
9. Get A Bite To Eat
Los Angeles is one of the best cities in the world for food. It’s a multicultural melting pot that’s brimming with excellent cuisine from the four corners of the world. Take a stop at The Rose Venice, Felix, Kato Restaurant, Lukshon, A.O.C., Somni, Republique, just to name a few. You’ll have an endless list to try, and it’s impossible to fit that much food in during one trip. You’ll just have to come back with another list of restaurants to try during your next trip.
10. The Broad
It’s a free museum that will alleviate your wallet from all the LA shopping and eating, and it’s got one of the most eccentric displays of all time. The Infinity Mirrored Room is something that people wait hours for despite it only being a less than one minute event. Endless LED lights and mirrors put you in the center of a constellation-filled galaxy, and it’s awe-inspiring to no end. It’ll be one of the highlight talking points when you’re briefing your friends and family on your experience.
