Dyson has recently unveiled their first wearable that aims to tackle both air and noise pollution at the same time. While noise-canceling headphones that deliver a pocket of clean air for the wearer to breathe may seem like something from a sci-fi novel, the reality is that millions of people around the world struggle with noise and air pollution. For many city dwellers, Dyson Zone may just come as a godsend.
A warning though: with this contraption, you’ll look like Bane; albeit calmer and healthier.

In The Zone
Basically, the Zone is Dyson’s first personal air purifier and noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones set in one. It looks as strange as it sounds: large over-ear headphones with a miniature air purifier built into each cup and a visor that covers the mouth and nose. What is great about it though is that the visor doesn’t actually touch your face but creates your own little pocket of clean air around your mouth and nose.
The gadget is really not meant to be used for longer periods: at the lowest purification rate, the battery holds up to four and a half hours, and at maximum about an hour and a half. If you use them without the air purifier, the battery can last up to 40 hours. They support fast charging via USB-C to 60% in 20 minutes.
The two filters remove 99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, similar to one of Dyson’s full-sized air purifiers. There is also an additional carbon filter.
The Buy
So there you have it – a set of noise-canceling, high fidelity over-ear headphones that fights noise and air pollution simultaneously. Sure, the contraption may look a little bizarre but we cannot deny it’s rather fitting for the times. We do have to wait for full specifications and the price though, as the Dyson Zone™ should become available in fall 2022.
