Transferring Music Library From Google Play To Youtube
You’ve spent years accumulating your favorite songs on Google Play Music and now, after all this time, you and millions around the world have got your work cut out for you. It seems that Google Play Music will be parting ways as YouTube’s music streaming service. So, what to do with all of your playlists, albums, and other music from your library? Well, you can transfer them all to your android tablet, laptop, or other devices, but for the time being, you can slowly transfer them to your YouTube account.
Google Play Music will still be around until sometime later this year, so you have plenty of time to move your music library to YouTube. Here are a few tips to get you started.
1. Download The YouTube Music App
If you don’t already have the YouTube app on your Android or iPhone, download that app first. If you do have the YouTube app, make sure you have downloaded the latest update. Open YouTube Music and you should see a button or banner that says, “Transfer Your Play Music Library”. At this point, you might also notice a few pop-ups adds prompting you to download the Premium version of YouTube music, but you can skip this for now. You should also keep checking for this transfer to be available via your android TV box.
You can also go into the app’s settings and choose the “Transfer from Google Play Music”. It may be possible that you can’t select either of these options yet, but don’t despair. It may be a simple matter of Google not yet initiating these features to your account so be patient and check your account again every few days until these features are available to you.
Once you have these features available to you, select “Let’s Go” or “Start Transfer”. This is when the fun starts. Depending on the size of your library, this process can take anything from a few minutes to a few hours or even a few days. You won’t need to keep checking the progress of transferring your music library though as you will receive a notification as well as an email when the transfer is complete. Once you receive these notifications, check the app to ensure all of your music has been successfully transferred.
2. You Can Still Use Google Play Music For Now
Unfortunately, you can’t sync your Google Play and YouTube accounts but you can still use your Google Play account while the service is still available. With that in mind, if you do continue to add music to your Google Play music library, you will need to periodically transfer that content to YouTube. Keep an eye on the date Google Play will cease to be available so that you don’t lose your music.
3. How Much Time Do You Have?
We still don’t know when Google Play Music will be taken down but it won’t just happen out of the blue. At the moment, it is expected to go offline later this year so keep an eye out for email messages and notifications on your apps.
One thing you will need to adapt to is the fact that YouTube doesn’t allow you to purchase music so it is important that you transfer all of your music and albums while you can. Any music that you are currently thinking of purchasing will appear in the uploads section of YouTube music. There is also the possibility that some of your music files may be lost either during the transfer or when Google Play Music goes offline so be prepared for that. The good news is, your personal uploads will all transfer over without any problems and if you do lose some of your music, you should be able to find it in YouTube’s ever-expanding offerings.
4. What About My Google Play Music Subscription?
Before Google Play Music goes dark, it will automatically analyze your subscription and will most likely transfer this same subscription to your YouTube Music account. If you’ve enjoyed the same “All Access” plan that was offered when Google Play Music was first launched, the good news is, you’ll be able to transfer that same subscription to your new YouTube account. Best of all, even family plans will be automatically transferred to YouTube.
5. What About The Upload Limits?
YouTube is going all out in this department so if you thought Google Play Music was good with their limit of up to 50,000 uploads, you’re going to love your new YouTube Music account which will be doubling this limit to 100,000. This means you can transfer your entire music library from Google Play Music to YouTube and keep adding to your library for as long as you like.
If you’ve been worried about your Google Play Music Library you can rest assured that Google is doing everything, they can to ease your transition to YouTube music. If by chance you do lose some music, you should be able to find a replacement without any trouble.
