Our smartphone camera is our typical every carry, but take a beating, it can’t. Olympus’ Tough TG-1 iHS camera might be overkill, but that’s the way we like it: waterproof to 40 feet, crushproof to 200 lbs/ft, shockproof to a 6.6 foot drop, and it operates at virtually any temperature south of Alaska. It’s no slouch in the optics department either, packing a 4x zoom, a 12MP sensor and a high-speed f2.0 water-repellant lens. Other niceties include 1080p video plus a built-in GPS and e-compass for geotagging or tracking routes (from photos) after the fact.
